The eagerly-awaited first Jeep new-product introduction of the FIAT-Chrysler era will be the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee... coming soon to a Jeep dealer near you, and boy is it nice.
The all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is in-fact based on the platform of the current Mercedes-Benz M-class, with numerous new approaches such as fully-independent suspension welcome upgrades for Jeep. The pioneering SUV nameplate will be available in base Laredo, next-step-up Laredo X, Limited, and top-spec Overland trim.
Engines are either Chrysler’s impressive new Pentastar V-6 (up 80 hp over last year's six!) or the thundering 5.7-liter Hemi. All four models come standard with the new 3.6-liter 60-degree V-6, which makes 290 hp at 6400 rpm.

The Laredo X, the Limited, and the Overland can then be upgraded to the 360-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with 390 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic is the only transmission, and all can be paired with rear- or four-wheel drive. Two towing packages allow up to 5000 pounds of towing capability with the V-6 and up to 7400 pounds with the Hemi.

And while the new sophistication and sharp, understated styling are plenty deserving of merit, it's the interior that's really going to surprise a few people- more than worthy of a luxury sedan, and a quantum-leap from Grand Cherokees past, known for mediocre materials and fit.
